Stop multiple instances of a Flatpak application from opening simultaneously

I just installed a Fedora Atomic variant called Caracal which leans heavily on Flatpak.

For a number of apps that I have installed it is possible, though undesirable, to open multiple instances, simply by choosing the app from the launcher or Krunner.

How can I stop this?

It’s happening with Digikam and this could cause database corruption
