Are there any plans to make the donations transparent? Maybe show app’s annual / monthly budget like open collective? Perhaps user info is not necessary, but overall budget would be really nice.
Interesting to see this post. As a pretty newb to the FOSS world, I would like to see certain programs supported that I use.
As a programmer, and as a user I value peoples time and effort.
Given that, I was imagining that a subscription model would be wonderful to opt in FOSS to some remuneration, regularly - like Patreon for music.
This Open Collective seems to have been that, but appears to have shut down ![]()
What happened? Did it never get enough support?
I would love to pay say $20 a month for all the FOSS projects I use. Some simply software like Flathub that tracks the software, divides it according to my wishes, or by default according to % of total hours of software used.
With some controls on the “size” of the software. Eg. a Panel Applet might run all the time, but it is tiny in comparison to say Thunderbird in complexity etc.
Is that what Open Collective was trying to achieve?
Opencollective, the platform, itself, shutdown. GNOME Foundation is now the fiscal host for Flatpak.
Flathub donations are coming, see Request for Proposals: Flathub Program Management
