Aisleriot, lang non-UTF not supported

Fresh install of almalinux 9.5 I allegedly installed aisleriot, will not run. “Non UTF-8 locale (ANSI_X3.4-1968) is not supported!”
locale shows LANG=C

Tried flatpak run --env=LANG=en_US.UTF-8 org.gnome.Aisleriot

Installed the doomsday engine, and that runs.
Clues for the poor?

Just got it to run from the command lind by LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8, then flatpak run --env=LANG=en_US.UTF-8 org.gnome.Aisleriot

This probably doesn’t have anything to do with flatpak. The aisleriot RPM package would fail the same way if LANG is C.

It sounds like you simply need to set your locale correctly, see man localectl. On a modern system, it should always be a UTF-8 locale, and definitely not the fallback C locale.
