Flatpak application metrics

Hello there! I already raised this question here: https://github.com/flathub/linux-store-frontend/issues/207, but I didn’t get any response, so I though I should ask again here.

Allowing the developer and user to see application metrics would be really useful.
As the developer of io.gitlab.o20.word, it would be really nice to have access to metrics (number of users, version, location), like I can on snapcraft.io. This feature is very useful, allowing you to see whether your new releases met a good reception, and in fact now that everybody install the flatpak for my app, the snapcraft metrics are slowly going down! It would also be useful for users, because then they can also see the history of your app and if people liked it as much as older versions.

I think this is strongly agreed by all! It just needs some people to get together to do it. You can use community tools like https://gitlab.com/ahayzen/flathub-api-stats-generator for now.

One of the focuses of some of the ‘flapak/flathub’ side people who were going to participate in the recent Elementary ‘appcenter for everyone’ sprint https://blog.elementary.io/appcenter-for-everyone-remote-sprint/ was going to be looking at the excellent developer experience they’ve crafted and how we can all collaborate better in future. That’d be a good place to start looking I think.

Thank you @nedrichards for this information. The ‘flathub-api-stats-generator’ tool is exactly what I’ve been looking for! Maybe we should make a flatpak for it?

I don’t see the need to make a flatpak of it. We want it integrated to Flathub directly.
