See title line: the only way that I can get the Unifying dongle detected is to start Soaar with the dongle already plugged in. Otherwise, the dongle just won’t be detected. At this point in time, it appears that this behavior is unique to the flatpak version of Solaar.
At any rate, I’d like to hear back from Solaar users.

It’s not specific to solaar. I can’t say more, as I’ve never used solaar, but there are other flatpaks with this behavior.

It can be fixed by the app authors afaik, but it really depends, they would have to spend some time on it.
By “app authors“ you mean those who (1) develop the app, or those who (2) package it in flatpak format?
Develop the app - they should be able to look at it.
As I was saying, the app author insists that things work fine with the non-Flatpak app. Are you, by any chance, saying that he has control over how the app is packaged for Flatpak?
