Im on ubuntu 25 i just want to install flatpak but when i write the command it says sudo apt install flatpak can’t be found? what does that mean?
This my first day using ubuntu
Ubuntu versioning is YY.MM (where MM usually is either 04 or 10 - April or October) there is no “version 25” unless you have installed Ubuntu Core. The current supported version is 25.04 with 25.10 is still in development with release due later this year.
The current LTS version (Long Term Support) is 24.04 which is the version perhaps you should be looking at installing as a new Ubuntu user. see
Flatpak is in the universe repo - which you might not have setup on install.
Go to a terminal and run `sudo add-apt-repository universe` - if that finishes successfully, you can proceed with the setup as explained in the setup guide.
or better. use a distribution that is not acitvely hostile to Flatpak like Ubuntu is.
where on earth is your evidence that Ubuntu is hostile to Flatpak?
There: All Ubuntu Flavors Agree to Stop Using Flatpak - OMG! Ubuntu
And the fact it is in the Universe repository.
If that’s not hostile, I’m not sure what this is. Sparkling argument?
Move from Ubuntu to a decent OS like Debian in that case. The whole point of Linux is that of choice. Snaps are Canonical’s own offering and they are basically rubbish. I replaced all preloaded Snaps with either the deb version or Flatpak.
Canonical are truly losing their way here. Even Popey who was on the Snap development team for 10years is working on a script that will replace Snaps with Flatpaks. Go figure!
