I performed an update 25-July-2205 and it found these items to update.
Looking for updates…

Proceed with these changes to the user installation? [Y/n]:
The update performed on org.gimp.GIMP did not change the verison. It remained at 3.0.4. How can an update occur that does not update the version ??
The other apps updated correctly to newer versions.
For some reason a previous post I made on a update by Brave was locked.
Alright, so both Brave and LibreOffice had an regular update. Now, with GIMP, the update is about a dependency it uses.
As you may know, on Flatpak an app bundles its dependencies which are not in the runtime. So, if one of these dependencies are updated in the manifest, this results in a new build for the app, hence the update.
If you were to look into the repository of the GIMP manifest, you would see that the latest update was about graphviz library.
Now, with this out of the way…
I can’t speak for the moderators directly.
But as the one who has responded most of the time:
The last few posts of you always were “Why is there an update”, even outright assuming bad behavior because the developer of an app didn’t update the version number on his website as well when updating the app on Flathub.
And at some point, this is just tiring.
If you have to question every update that comes your way, from now on please check it for yourself. Go to the repository of the manifest (github.com/flathub/APP_ID) and check the commit history.
Or even make your own repository and build the software yourself, with full control over updates…
But please don’t open new topics each time for essentially the same question…
I personally will not answer any more of this.
@compis1
I don’t see that you have mentioned which distro you are using.
I’m using Debian 12 and am experiencing no problems with the (many) Flatpaks I use on my daily driver which includes GIMP and LO but not brave (which I detest with a passion along with Chrome) preferring instead to remain with Firefox.
OK, graphviz is a dependency but since a update is about the app (GIMP 3.04) not the dependency is there a way to determine what is being updated? The version of the gimp app remains the same since it is not directly an update of that application. The update should state “graphviz” as the application the dependency of gimp.
As for the closed Brave post, the question is still unresolved as I observed a update for a update that did not exist and the post was locked with no answer. As for posts about bad behaviour by vendor that is not me. If I post on flathub it is about flathub issues. For example vokoscreenNg had a post for a version that did not exist on the vendors site but only existed on flathub, Software VokoscreenNG 4.3.0 suspect - #7 by razzeee
That should not occur and no valid answer was provided and immediately the current version of their software appeared properly on flathub.
.
Both Brave and Gimp had pending updates.
I then performed “apt-cache depends gimp| dpkg -s>>gimp_udate” to get all dependencies versions, before and then after the update. There was no difference in the versions after the flatpak update. Gimp still has 3.04, what occurred with the update ?
As for the closed Brave issue at the time I made the post the update was not avaialble and if it was the post should not of been locked simply an answer placed so forum members could respond, but someone marked it closed and a solution.
There is no correlation between the flatpak and the installed system package. Not the version, not the content.
A flatpak is a whole. If a dependency get updated you get a flatpak update. Thankfully the way it work you only download the changed file but this is totally opaque to the user.
I don’t see why there is so much fuss about it. It keeps things up to date. If you don’t like it feel free to use the distribution packages. They might not get updated but at least you’ll know.
It was locked because you are repeatedly spamming the forum with multiple threads that amount to “why is there an update” when people have answered them on older threads already.
The answer doesn’t change, and there is no conspiracy going on here.
You are welcome to inspect the manifests yourself and answer your own questions.
